The San Juans set the terms. People move to Durango because the skiing, the trails, and the rivers are twenty minutes out the door, and every one of those things comes with gear that has to go somewhere between trips. That somewhere is almost always the garage. It’s the launch pad and the landing zone: where the bikes get grabbed on a Tuesday evening and where the wet, muddy, snow-crusted version of everything comes back a few hours later.
We’re from here, so we design for it. A family that skis and rides and paddles doesn’t need a tidier version of a suburban garage. They need a system that assumes the seasons turn over, that the kids’ gear outgrows itself every couple of years, and that half of what’s stored is going right back out the door soon.
We’ve been building those systems for Durango households since 2008, at our shop on Turner Drive, and the aim never changes: make room for the life, and get the cars back inside before winter.

Do you handle ski, bike, and gear storage?
Yes — this is one of our favorite things to build for Durango homeowners. Vertical ski racks, wall- and ceiling-mounted bike storage, kayak and paddleboard mounts, and gear lockers, configured as part of the wall system or as dedicated zones. We also build boot-drying and gear-drying zones — from passive dry racks we handle entirely in-house to powered, heated setups we rough in and coordinate with your electrician for the final connection. It’s fully custom, so if you can picture it, we can usually build it. Your designer will map out the right configuration for your gear at the consultation.
Do you do epoxy or garage floor coatings?
No — we focus on cabinetry, wall storage, and built-in systems. We’re glad to refer you to local contractors for flooring.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes. Every project starts with a free in-home consultation — we come to you, measure the space, talk through how you use it, and leave you with a design and an itemized quote. No obligation, and no showroom visit required.
Do you install lighting?
Yes. We design and install any lighting that doesn’t require patching into your home’s electrical — think battery and motion-sensor units, plug-in under-shelf LED strips, and entry lights. For hardwired, integrated lighting we design and rough it out, and the final electrical connection is handled by your electrician. Your designer will map out the right lighting plan for your space at the consultation.
Will a garage system get my cars back inside?
That’s usually the goal — getting gear off the floor and onto the walls and ceiling so the cars fit again. Especially worth it through a Durango winter.
Are you a franchise?
No. Colorado Closets Plus is locally owned and has designed, built, and installed in Durango since 2008. The designer who walks your home is part of the same team that manufactures and installs the project.

Yes. We travel throughout Southwest Colorado for consultations and installations — Telluride, Pagosa Springs, Ouray, Cortez, Silverton, Bayfield, Farmington, and the surrounding communities.
Can you work in a one-car or tight garage?
Yes — smaller garages often benefit most, since every foot counts. We design around water heaters, electrical panels, and other fixed elements.
How long does installation take?
Most single-room projects install in one to two days. Larger or multi-room projects are phased so you’re not living in a construction zone. You’ll get a specific timeline once the design is finalized.
How many color and finish options are there?
More than 50 — crisp whites, warm off-whites, wood tones, deep blues and greens, charcoals, and matte blacks. We bring physical samples to your home so you can see them in the room’s actual light.
Where is everything manufactured?
At our own facility at 190 Turner Drive in Durango. Nothing ships in from a national distribution center — which means shorter lead times and changes resolved in days, not weeks.
Can you integrate a workbench with power?
Yes — we build the workbench and surrounding cabinetry and rough out for power; the electrical work is handled by your electrician. [CONFIRM workbench power rough-out.]
What are your closets and cabinets made of?
High-quality thermally fused melamine — hard, non-porous, easy to clean, and stable in dry Colorado air, where cheaper boards swell or peel. Cabinet boxes are built on plywood. The finish holds up for decades.
How much does a garage storage system cost?
Garage storage covers a lot of ground — from free-standing gear storage for golf, skis, and equipment to full built-in systems with cabinetry, slatwall, and workbenches. Pricing starts around $1,800 and scales up with the size of the system and the accessories you add. The consultation produces a specific quote for your space.
