Custom Kitchen Storage
Most kitchens have storage that almost works. The cabinets are close to the right depth. The drawers are roughly where you'd put them. But cooking every day turns up a dozen small annoyances, and they pile up. We design the whole kitchen as one system, cabinets and pantry and drawers and prep space, sized to your room and the way you use it.

Get a kitchen that's truly yours
The kitchen gets used harder than any room in the house, so storage that almost works quietly eats hours over a year. Pots stacked in a deep cabinet you have to kneel down to reach. A spice drawer that jams halfway open. The stand mixer that lives on the counter because getting it up from the cupboard is a whole thing.
We’ve been designing kitchen storage in Durango since 2008. Cabinets, drawer banks, pantry pull-outs, corner solutions, prep zones. We draw it up together, build it at our Turner Drive shop, and install it with our own crew. Whether you’re renovating the whole kitchen or just fixing how the storage works inside the layout you already have, either way it starts with a free in-home consultation.
Design Options & Configurations
Every part of the kitchen is yours to set: cabinets, what goes inside them, finishes, hardware. Here's how the main pieces work.

Cabniets
Base and wall cabinets, tall pantry cabinets, full-height pantry walls, island cabinetry, corner solutions. Cut to your kitchen's dimensions instead of the widths a factory happens to make.

Storage Solutions
Pull-out trays, lazy susans, deep drawer banks for pots, spice pull-outs, knife blocks, appliance garages, trash and recycling pull-outs, a spot built for baking sheets.
Colors & Finishes
50+ options in our melamine catalog. Bright whites, warm off-whites, wood grains, deep blues, charcoal. We bring the samples to your consultation so you can hold them against your counters and floor.
Accessories
Soft-close hinges and drawers come standard. From there you can add under-cabinet lighting, push-to-open hardware, and pull-down shelving that brings the top cabinets down to where you can reach them.
A Custom Kitchen is Perfect For…
Custom Kitchen storage in Durango & Southwest Colorado
New Home Builds
We get in with your builder and architect early, so the storage is part of the plan instead of something we fit around finished walls.
Kitchen Renovations
Pull out the standard cabinetry and put in a system built around your appliances, the way you prep, and how the room flows.
Open-Concept Kitchens
When the kitchen opens onto the living room, the cabinetry reads as furniture. Finish, door style, and trim matter as much as what's inside.
Compact Kitchens
Small kitchens get the most out of custom work. Every inch of height, every corner, every odd angle becomes storage you'll use.
Pre-Sale Home Upgrades
Kitchens sell houses. Updated cabinetry is one of the things agents around Southwest Colorado tell people to do before they list.
Home Chefs
A kitchen laid out around how you actually cook, not how a factory assumes you do, changes what it feels like to spend time in there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you handle plumbing and electrical?
We work closely with your plumbers and electricians to design and rough in the accommodations for sinks, ranges, hoods, and lighting — making sure the cabinetry is built to fit everything properly. The final plumbing and electrical hookups are handled by the trades. Your designer coordinates the sequencing so it all comes together cleanly.
What does the first step look like?
A designer comes to the house, measures, and talks through what is not working. You see the design before anything is built.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes. Every project starts with a free in-home consultation — we come to you, measure the space, talk through how you use it, and leave you with a design and an itemized quote. No obligation, and no showroom visit required.
How long does installation take?
Most single-room projects install in one to two days. Larger or multi-room projects are phased so you’re not living in a construction zone. You’ll get a specific timeline once the design is finalized.
Do you have a showroom?
We have a small showroom at our production facility in Durango at 190 Turner Drive Units B & H,
Durango. We come to you for your design consultation, but if you’re interested in seeing where the magic happens, or if you just want to get an in-person look at some of our beautiful finish and accessories here in-store, we’d love to show you around.Do you work in new construction as well as existing homes?
Both. Most of our work is retrofit in existing homes, but we also coordinate with builders and architects on new builds — the earlier we’re involved, the more storage gets designed into the house itself.
Can you do more than one room in a single project?
Yes. Whole-house projects are common, and carrying one finish across rooms keeps everything cohesive — one design team, one install schedule, one point of contact.
Do you handle electrical for home bar fridges?
We have a short list of preferred contractors that we work closely with in every city in the four corners. No matter what brand or style you’re looking for we have the right partner for the job.
How long does a kitchen take from consultation to install?
Typically six to eight weeks — one to two weeks for design, three to four for manufacturing, and two to three days to install an average kitchen.
Do you work outside Durango?
We do. Our crew works with clients in Telluride, Mountain Village, Pagosa Springs, Cortez, and all around the Four Corners. The free consultation and the install both come to you.
Why plywood boxes instead of particleboard?
Plywood holds screws better, resists swelling at the joints when moisture is present, and lasts longer under daily use. It costs more to build — and in dry mountain air, the difference compounds over the years.
Where is everything manufactured?
At our own facility at 190 Turner Drive in Durango. Nothing ships in from a national distribution center — which means shorter lead times and changes resolved in days, not weeks.
Can you improve kitchen storage without a full renovation?
Often, yes — replacing cabinet interiors with pull-outs, redesigned drawer banks, and accessory upgrades changes how a kitchen works without replacing the boxes.
What are your closets and cabinets made of?
High-quality thermally fused melamine — hard, non-porous, easy to clean, and stable in dry Colorado air, where cheaper boards swell or peel. Cabinet boxes are built on plywood. The finish holds up for decades.
Are you a franchise?
No. Colorado Closets Plus is locally owned and has designed, built, and installed in Durango since 2008. The designer who walks your home is part of the same team that manufactures and installs the project.
Do you do countertops?
We build and install the cabinetry and coordinate your countertops with local suppliers — Durango has a number of excellent fabricators to choose from. We sequence the installs so the cabinetry and counters go in the right order and you’re not left juggling two contractors. Your designer will help coordinate the details at the consultation.
How many color and finish options are there?
More than 50 — crisp whites, warm off-whites, wood tones, deep blues and greens, charcoals, and matte blacks. We bring physical samples to your home so you can see them in the room’s actual light.
Do you serve Telluride, Pagosa Springs, and Ouray?
Yes. We travel throughout Southwest Colorado for consultations and installations — Telluride, Pagosa Springs, Ouray, Cortez, Silverton, Bayfield, Farmington, and the surrounding communities.
What finishes are available?
Every material we offer has more than 50 variations. Wood grains, whites, warmer off-whites, colors, and all the hardware you could imagine. If you want to see the whole menu come on down to our showroom on Turner Drive in Durango or book a free design consultation and we’ll come to you.
Should the pantry match my kitchen cabinets?
It can. If we build both, we match finish and door style exactly; if the kitchen’s already done, bring a door or photo and we’ll get as close as the 50+ palette allows.
