A standard closet system is built to fit any closet, which really means it doesn't fit yours all that well. Standard widths leave gaps at the wall. Wire shelving gives out once the clips start to fail. Drawer slides bind under a load. Whatever you save up front rarely makes it through the first decade.

Every closet we build uses high-quality thermally fused melamine, the same material premium closet makers rely on across North America. The surface is hard, non-porous, easy to wipe down, and holds up in dry Colorado air, where cheaper boards and hardwood tend to swell, warp, or break down within a few years.

More than 50 options in our catalog: bright whites, warm off-whites, rich wood tones, deep blues and greens, charcoals, and matte blacks. Your designer brings samples to the consultation so you can hold them up in your closet’s real light.

What do you actually build?
Custom closets, cabinets for every room, wall beds, garage and gear storage, built-ins, and new-construction storage — all designed and manufactured in Durango.
Do you install lighting?
Yes. We design and install any lighting that doesn’t require patching into your home’s electrical — think battery and motion-sensor units, plug-in under-shelf LED strips, and entry lights. For hardwired, integrated lighting we design and rough it out, and the final electrical connection is handled by your electrician. Your designer will map out the right lighting plan for your space at the consultation.
Is there a semi-custom or stock option?
No. Everything is made to order at our Durango facility to your exact dimensions — no standard widths and no filler pieces.

How much does a custom storage project cost?
It depends on the room, the size, the configuration, and the finishes and accessories you choose. Most projects start around $1,200 for a single space and scale up from there — a full garage system, whole-kitchen cabinetry, or a multi-room project can run well into five figures. Every consultation produces an itemized, room-by-room quote, so you’ll see exactly what drives the number before you commit.
How much does a custom closet cost?
A custom closet’s cost depends on the type. A simple reach-in starts around $1,200; a walk-in starts at $3,999 and climbs with size and accessories; and a fully accessorized boutique walk-in — island, integrated lighting, premium finishes — typically runs $10,000 and up. The consultation produces an itemized quote so you can see exactly what each upgrade adds.
Do you work in new construction as well as existing homes?
Both. Most of our work is retrofit in existing homes, but we also coordinate with builders and architects on new builds — the earlier we’re involved, the more storage gets designed into the house itself.
How long does installation take?
Most single-room projects install in one to two days. Larger or multi-room projects are phased so you’re not living in a construction zone. You’ll get a specific timeline once the design is finalized.
Can you do more than one room in a single project?
Yes. Whole-house projects are common, and carrying one finish across rooms keeps everything cohesive — one design team, one install schedule, one point of contact.
Where is everything manufactured?
At our own facility at 190 Turner Drive in Durango. Nothing ships in from a national distribution center — which means shorter lead times and changes resolved in days, not weeks.
What’s the difference between fully custom and semi-custom?
Semi-custom assembles pre-built boxes in standard widths to fill a space. Fully custom — what we build — means every component is made to your exact dimensions: no standard widths, no filler pieces.
Can you work with sloped ceilings or other non-standard spaces?
Yes — those are exactly the spaces custom is for. Sloped ceilings, angled walls, shallow niches, and converted rooms are common in mountain homes, and every piece is made to your measurements rather than a standard size.
What closet types do you build?
Walk-in, reach-in, boutique, kids’, linen, and new-construction closets. The construction and materials are the same across all of them — what changes is the layout and the use case.

No. Colorado Closets Plus is locally owned and has designed, built, and installed in Durango since 2008. The designer who walks your home is part of the same team that manufactures and installs the project.
