Custom Kitchen Cabinets in Durango
Most kitchen cabinets sold in the US are made overseas, boxed, shipped to a distribution center, and put together on-site. They come in fixed widths, usually in 3-inch jumps, so they fit some kitchens and get forced into the rest with filler strips and awkward gaps.
We build every cabinet to your kitchen's actual measurements at our shop on Turner Drive in Durango.

Our cabinets are built here in Durango
The real payoff of building cabinets in town is speed when something needs to change. A measurement comes back off, or you switch door styles halfway through. At our shop that’s a couple of days on the bench. Order the same change from a distribution center and it’s a six-week wait for a replacement box.
Every cabinet gets soft-close hinges and drawer slides as standard and your pick of more than 50 melamine finishes. The team that designs your kitchen is the same team that builds it and the same team that installs it, so there’s one person to talk to from the first measurement to the final walk-through.
Design Options & Configurations
Kitchen cabinets carry more decisions than most cabinet products. Here's how the main ones break down.

Configuration
Base and wall cabinets, tall pantry cabinets, full-height pantry walls, island cabinetry, and corner solutions. Cut to your kitchen's dimensions, not to standard widths.

Doors & Drawers
Slab for a clean, modern face, finger-pull for a handleless look, or grooved for a bit of texture. Soft-close on every door and drawer, standard.
Colors & Finishes
50+ melamine options: bright whites, warm off-whites, wood grains, deep blues, charcoal. We bring samples to the consultation so you can set them against your counters and floor.
Internal Hardware
Full-extension drawers, deep drawer banks for pots, adjustable interior shelving, and the pull-out and lift hardware that makes a cabinet easy to reach into.

Custom Kitchen Cabinets in Durango & Southwest Colorado
Whole-Kitchen Builds
New construction or a full renovation. Cabinets cut to your exact layout, with the runs, corners, and appliance openings all planned as one set.
Island-Based Layouts
When the island does most of the work, it needs to be sized to the room, not to a stock width. Custom is the only way to get the overhangs, drawer banks, and appliance cutouts right.
Galley Kitchens
Two parallel runs with a walkway between them. Galleys live or die on tight tolerances, which is exactly where cut-to-measure beats fixed widths.
Compact Kitchens
Small or oddly shaped kitchens gain the most. Every inch of height, every corner, every strange angle becomes a cabinet instead of dead space.
Finish-Matching
Redoing one wall and keeping the rest? Bring us a door or a photo and we'll get as close as the catalog allows, or match exactly if we build the whole run.
Pre-Sale Upgrade
Kitchens sell houses. New cabinet faces are one of the upgrades agents around Southwest Colorado point to before a listing, and it shows on a walkthrough.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do your cabinets compare to big-box stock cabinets?
Fit, material, and lifespan. Stock comes in fixed widths with particleboard boxes; ours are built to your exact measurements with plywood boxes and soft-close hardware as standard.
How long does installation take?
Most single-room projects install in one to two days. Larger or multi-room projects are phased so you’re not living in a construction zone. You’ll get a specific timeline once the design is finalized.
Do you work outside Durango?
We do. Our crew works with clients in Telluride, Mountain Village, Pagosa Springs, Cortez, and all around the Four Corners. The free consultation and the install both come to you.
What finishes are available?
Every material we offer has more than 50 variations. Wood grains, whites, warmer off-whites, colors, and all the hardware you could imagine. If you want to see the whole menu come on down to our showroom on Turner Drive in Durango or book a free design consultation and we’ll come to you.
Do you handle electrical for home bar fridges?
We have a short list of preferred contractors that we work closely with in every city in the four corners. No matter what brand or style you’re looking for we have the right partner for the job.
Why plywood boxes instead of particleboard?
Plywood holds screws better, resists swelling at the joints when moisture is present, and lasts longer under daily use. It costs more to build — and in dry mountain air, the difference compounds over the years.
Do you have a showroom?
We have a small showroom at our production facility in Durango at 190 Turner Drive Units B & H,
Durango. We come to you for your design consultation, but if you’re interested in seeing where the magic happens, or if you just want to get an in-person look at some of our beautiful finish and accessories here in-store, we’d love to show you around. Can you match existing cabinets if I’m only redoing part of the kitchen?
Sometimes — bring a door or photo and we’ll see how close the 50+ palette gets. For a perfect old-to-new match, we usually recommend redoing all the cabinets at once.
What does the first step look like?
A designer comes to the house, measures, and talks through what is not working. You see the design before anything is built.
Can you do more than one room in a single project?
Yes. Whole-house projects are common, and carrying one finish across rooms keeps everything cohesive — one design team, one install schedule, one point of contact.
How many color and finish options are there?
More than 50 — crisp whites, warm off-whites, wood tones, deep blues and greens, charcoals, and matte blacks. We bring physical samples to your home so you can see them in the room’s actual light.
Are you a franchise?
No. Colorado Closets Plus is locally owned and has designed, built, and installed in Durango since 2008. The designer who walks your home is part of the same team that manufactures and installs the project.
Do you do countertops?
We build and install the cabinetry and coordinate your countertops with local suppliers — Durango has a number of excellent fabricators to choose from. We sequence the installs so the cabinetry and counters go in the right order and you’re not left juggling two contractors. Your designer will help coordinate the details at the consultation.
Where is everything manufactured?
At our own facility at 190 Turner Drive in Durango. Nothing ships in from a national distribution center — which means shorter lead times and changes resolved in days, not weeks.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes. Every project starts with a free in-home consultation — we come to you, measure the space, talk through how you use it, and leave you with a design and an itemized quote. No obligation, and no showroom visit required.
What are your closets and cabinets made of?
High-quality thermally fused melamine — hard, non-porous, easy to clean, and stable in dry Colorado air, where cheaper boards swell or peel. Cabinet boxes are built on plywood. The finish holds up for decades.
Do you work in new construction as well as existing homes?
Both. Most of our work is retrofit in existing homes, but we also coordinate with builders and architects on new builds — the earlier we’re involved, the more storage gets designed into the house itself.
How long does a kitchen take from consultation to install?
Typically six to eight weeks — one to two weeks for design, three to four for manufacturing, and two to three days to install an average kitchen.
Do you serve Telluride, Pagosa Springs, and Ouray?
Yes. We travel throughout Southwest Colorado for consultations and installations — Telluride, Pagosa Springs, Ouray, Cortez, Silverton, Bayfield, Farmington, and the surrounding communities.
Do you handle plumbing and electrical?
We work closely with your plumbers and electricians to design and rough in the accommodations for sinks, ranges, hoods, and lighting — making sure the cabinetry is built to fit everything properly. The final plumbing and electrical hookups are handled by the trades. Your designer coordinates the sequencing so it all comes together cleanly.
